OVERVIEW

Professional Composition MFA

Two-year Master Of Fine Art postgraduate program

Our flagship MFA programme is the ultimate preparation for anyone looking to enter the industry as a composer, orchestrator or sound designer.

Whether your goal is film, games or television, you will receive individual tuition from world class working professionals.

There are four pathways to choose from. Each combines the skills, topics and industry insights covered in two of our MA programmes. The whole MFA course is half as long again as a standard MA, meaning that individual topics are covered slightly faster than in the equivalent MA.

To find out in detail exactly what you’ll be studying, click on one of the four pathways below.

Course Information

Employability

These combinations greatly increase your employability, by broadening your skillset. A games composer who can also do sound design or who is well versed in live orchestral technique is more likely to get a wider range of projects. A media composer who is as good at electronica and at live orchestral music doubles their potential work opportunities.

Schedules

The programme lasts 19 months full time with several flexible part time schedules available. It represents excellent value with fees only a third more than the MA course. Students can pay fees in interest free monthly instalments (subject to terms and conditions).

Modules

You will study 12 modules including a range of inspiring electives. For full details of your course, the compulsory and elective modules available to you, choose a pathway above.

At the end of your course you will bring it all together with a three month major project, ready to launch your career or reinvigorate your career. For those following a more academic path, a dissertation can be substituted for the final major project.

Students on courses including orchestration will enjoy the experience of a lifetime, hearing their music performed by a live professional session orchestra.
